Our Story

History Of Harden Beck Horticultural Society

The origins of HBHS are pre WWII. Records indicate that funds donated by the society helped to establish a branch of the British Legion in Harden village to help returning servicemen and their families. Originally HBHS was based at the Malt Shovel Inn; holding it's meetings in the pub and show in the grounds. Hence the connection with Harden Beck.

The society was revived in 1962 and the first "new" annual show was held on Saturday 8th September 1962.

Towards the end of the 1960's the show relocated to it's current site behind the Golden Fleece when land was acquired by the society. Early photographs of the HBHS committee can be found on the walls of The Golden Fleece, they show a very formal period when the men all wore shirts and ties etc and no women were permitted, this is certainly not the case now!

The annual show is the highlight of the year and we are so pleased that this year it is going ahead on Sunday 8th September in our show ground.
